The explosion of online shoppers in recent years means more goods are being picked, packed and shipped across cities and around the world than ever before! That means, all kinds of brands have had to up their game to make their fragile products delivery friendly and keep up with these changing times. So, we thought it would be a great time to look at some of the most innovative packing solutions we’ve seen to date (and you never know, they might even inspire you).

It’s a bottle; in a cage

That’s right, it’s not a canary but a bottle of gin sitting in Tanqueray’s self-proclaimed “Art Deco” bottle cage. Sure, not many gin lovers would dare put it to the test by dropping their Tanqueray No. 10 on the floor, but this stylish metallic cage will certainly do a good job of shielding that glass bottle from a few bumps and knocks. It could even make bottles more environmentally friendly to send too, eliminating the need for that nasty plastic bubble wrap or polystyrene.

Waterless flower packs

Fresh flowers are notoriously a nightmare to pack if you want them looking freshly picked on arrival. And this is a real problem considering hundreds of thousands of delicate bouquets are sent every year for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day and many other celebratory or sentimental occasions.

Using a special patented biodegradable polymetric film, Flexfresh packaging regulates humidity and oxygen – the two biggest culprits for wilting and moulding flowers. So, retailers can rejoice, because, this new packaging material has been proven to extend the shelf-life of fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.

A lightweight recyclable esky?

The popularity of meal kits is really taking off thanks those of us who, despite loving food, either can’t cook or can’t find the time to shop. So, it stands to reason that someone needed to come up with a cool way to keep those ingredients and ready-to-eat meals fresh while on the road.

So, check out Northbox. These innovators have eliminated the need for wasteful improvised packing methods with their fully-recyclable insulated containers. Each cooler box is made with a paper-based corrugated liner for optimum temperature control. Better still, Northbox custom makes, optimises and tests the performance of its containers for every type of deliverable food-based product.

Wine and shot pouches

Perhaps a close contender for the “bottle cage”, these neat wine and shot pouches could easily take the nerves out of transporting and delivering those expensive bottles of your favourite tipple. Take a look here.

No, they’re not goon bags; we’re talking about smartly branded and stylised easy pour pouches that not only make your gifts and picnics easy to pack but maintain that air of sophistication any fine wine or whiskey should have! And they don’t need a cardboard box either; these pouches are designed for maximum protection and will even stand tall on any shelf – just like a real bottle!
