When it comes to great transport innovations, most people don’t think Australia has anything to boast about. The car was invented in Germany, the first powered flight took off in the US and we have the UK to thank for our trains. And that covers pretty much everything – for the time being at least (take a look at our blog on the new Hyperloop!) Or does it?
In fact, Australia was the birthplace of the ute! Contrary to what you might think, this iconic symbol of Australian culture has little to do with tradies and everything do with a farmer’s wife – or so the story goes. Apparently, the ute was invented in response to a request from a Gippsland farmer’s wife who wanted a vehicle to go to church in on a Sunday and ship goods to market on a Monday. How very Australian (at least for 1932).
A revolutionary development in transport and logistics
The ute, formally known as the “utility vehicle”, was a revolutionary development in the world of transport and logistics. It was so successful, the vehicle was quickly exported to the US and renamed the “kangaroo chaser”.
Granted, these sorts of transport innovations don’t get people excited in the same way as supersonic jets and the Hyperloop, but they’re real game-changers in the world of logistics. And Go People will be no different.
Of course, we’re not innovating brand new modes of transport in the same way the ute was still essentially a road vehicle, but rather, we’re innovating with technology to bring a much better way for doing things within the logistics space. That’s right, we could be Australia’s next best transport innovation since the ute!
Innovating with technology
Let’s face it, courier innovation has been a long time coming. Getting goods from A to B has always relied on roads, trucks, cars, bikes, and drivers – traditional courier solutions have been using this infrastructure for decades. And, so are we! But here at Go People, we know courier innovation is all about bringing new technology into the mix.
Unlike traditional courier solutions that distribute goods in bulk from huge fulfillment centres, we cut out time-consuming processes and huge operating costs by enabling customers to book crowd-sourced delivery runners on demand via our platform. This means goods are picked up and taken straight to the recipient by the first available runner via the fastest route – with complete transparency too, thanks to our GPS mapping technology.
And the result? Just like the farmer’s wife who could use her vehicle for church and transporting goods – consumers can now have fast and cheap deliveries!
