Here at Go People, we handle lots of flower deliveries. Whether it’s to say “thank you”, “get well” or “congratulations” there are so many reasons why flowers are the perfect way to get a message across – provided they look the part!

That’s why we take great care to ensure those delicate bouquets are delivered looking as bright, crisp and pert as the day they were picked. Here are some tips to keep those flowers in perfect condition while transporting them.

Wrap the stems

Like any other living thing, flowers need water. Of course, you can’t transport them in a vase of water but you can wrap the stems to make sure they stay moist. For this, you could use cotton wool soaked in room temperature water with an outer plastic wrapping to keep the moisture in.

Place them in a bag or box

Flowers are just as sensitive to cold and hot weather conditions as we are. So, the best way to protect them from extremes it to put them in a paper bag or cardboard box which will have an insulating effect.

Keep them out of the sun

Sunlight can fade and wilt flowers so make sure they’re in a shady spot at all times throughout the journey.

Don’t place them in the boot of a car

Can you imagine being trapped in an overheated airless compartment? Well – flowers don’t like it either and any length of time spent in the boot of a car will lead to a soggy, wilted mess. Place your flowers in a cool spot with plenty of air circulation.

Keep them away from air conditioning vents

Blasts of cold dry air and flowers are completely incompatible. This is because air conditioners remove all the moisture and warmth from the air which are two of the most important environmental conditions for all flowers to stay perky and bright.

Bundle them together with an elastic band

It’s likely someone will have spent a great deal of time arranging those flower deliveries so they look their absolute best for the recipient. So, don’t let all that effort go to waste by allowing them to get jostled around in transit. A few elastic bands to secure the stems is all it takes to keep them in perfect order.
